What is DET?
The Department of Economy and Tourism is the Dubai government body that licenses mainland companies. It was formerly the Department of Economic Development (DED).
What it does
- Issues and renews mainland trade licences
- Approves trade names and initial approvals
- Registers commercial, professional, industrial and tourism licences
- Oversees consumer protection and commercial compliance
- Licenses tourism businesses such as travel agencies and hotels
Common questions
Is DED the same as DET?
Yes. DED's functions were merged into the Department of Economy and Tourism in 2022; many people still say DED.
