Change of visa status
If you are in the UAE on a visit visa or another residence, you can usually switch to your new residence visa without leaving the country.
When it applies
- Moving from a visit visa to an investor, employment or family residence visa
- Moving from one sponsor to another after cancellation
Process
The sponsor applies for the entry permit, then pays the change-of-status fee so the permit is activated inside the UAE. The medical test, biometrics and residence stamping then follow.

Is it cheaper to exit and re-enter?
Change of status is usually more convenient, and the fee is often less than the cost of travel.
